A Seven-foot Cube of Light and Wonder

The "see-through" Mystery Box featured a gigantic floating gift card illusion — powered by four webcams and a real-time 3D game engine. I developed and programmed the original prototype using Unity 3D.

Shoppers received postcards with unique codes, and entered these into an iPad to see if they’d won. When they did, the box would dramatically spring open, releasing fog as a brand ambassador pulled out a novelty-sized gift card.

Results

Client renewed the installation for five years running.

Over 1,400 shoppers per year got off of the internet and into the shopping mall on Black Friday.
